THE APPLICATION PROCESS FOR FALL 2013 MUST BE DONE IN TWO PARTS!

PART 1: Between October 1, 2012 and December 1, 2012, submit an application to the California State University System using the following procedures:

Complete a California State University (CSU) application online at CSU. The major title is listed as: Clinical Psychology (PHD)
  1. Payment for the $55 application fee can be made by check, money order, or credit card following the instructions on the CSU Mentor website.
  2. Submit one set of official transcripts from each college or university attended to Graduate Admissions; DO NOT send these before you apply to CSU, DO NOT send to the Selection Committee; doing so will delay the application process.
  3. Submit official scores for the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) General Test and Advanced Test in Psychology (required for our program); the institution code for San Diego State University (R4682) and the code for Clinical Psychology (2001).  [Please Note: Applicants must take the GRE Psychology Subject Test no later than the October 13, 2012 administration date. In addition to submitting official scores to SDSU, those applicants who take the GRE on October 13, 2012 must fax their scores to our offices (619-594-6780) prior to December 1, 2012 in order for their application to be considered complete.
If you have not yet registered for the GRE Psychology Subject Test on October 13, 2012, you may want to consider "Standby Testing":  http://www.ets.org/gre/subject/register/accommodations/

Please send transcripts and GRE scores to:

Paper applications will NOT be accepted.

ANSWERS TO FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

1) Statements of purpose, letters of recommendation, vitae, and essays are all part of the supplemental online application that will be available starting October 1, 2012.

2) Letters of recommendation are part of the supplemental online application that will be available starting October 1, 2012, and must be completed by the recommender by December 1, 2012. Paper recommendations will NOT be accepted.

3) When filling out the CSU Mentor application, there is no need to input your statement of purpose. Please just answer "See supplemental application"

4) GRE scores must be RECEIVED by the Graduate Admissions Office at SDSU by December 1, 2012. If you fax a GRE report directly to us (619-594-6780) by December 1, 2012, we will consider your application, but cannot make an official decision about an interview or acceptance until the official score is received by SDSU.

5) DO NOT send any application materials to UCSD at this time. AFTER you are selected for admission to the Joint Doctoral Program you will be required to complete a UCSD application. In other words, only those students who are admitted to the program and elect to come need to complete the UCSD application process. After formal notification from SDSU, students will receive material from UCSD. Payment of an application fee to UCSD is required.

6) Contacting a professor directly about your application will not better your chances of being accepted. In fact, for some faculty members it may even decrease your chances. It is, however, appropriate to contact professors ahead of time to find out more about their research if you are considering applying to work with them.

7) You must be admitted and enrolled in the JDP Program to take JDP courses.

8) Acceptance into the JDP Program is determined by several factors and the entire file is reviewed; your prior research experience, recommendations, publications, GRE scores, and prior coursework all factor into our decision.

9)  We do not offer weekend/evening courses. You cannot attend our program part-time. We require full-time attendance and participation

10) We do not have Spring admissions. We accept students for the Fall only.

11)  We do not send information regarding the JDP via mail.  The website contains all of the information you need to know about the program.

12)  Due to the high volume of applicants, at this time we cannot accommodate requests for meetings/tours. Also, due to State of California budget constraints, we cannot return long distance phone calls.

13) Until your transcripts are evaluated we cannot give you a concrete response as to what courses fulfill the prerequisites.

14) GRE tests and GRE subject tests are two different tests.  Please go to www.gre.org for more information.

15) Our program may use social media resources in determination of applicant suitability.
