PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY. 

Step 1

In order to apply to the program, applicants must submit the following:

    1. An SDSU/UCSD Joint Ph.D. application, Part I and II;
    2. Two-page Statement of Purpose;
    3. At minimum, three letters of recommendation with the letter of recommendation Form completed and attached to each letter;
    4. A photocopy of the GRE (general and subject) scores received by you from the Education Testing Services,

Please send as much as possible of the above material in one packet to:

Step 2

The following items are required for admission to SDSU:

    1. A California State University (CSU) application. Please apply online at CSU. The major title is listed as: Clinical Psychology (PHD);
    2. A check for $55 made payable to San Diego State University (nonrefundable);
    3. One set of official transcripts from each college or university attended;
    4. Official scores for the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) General Test and Advanced Test in Psychology (required for our program); the institution code for San Diego State University (R4682) and the code for Clinical Psychology (2001).

A limited number of CSU application fee waivers are granted to applicants demonstrating financial need. Applicants should formally request an Application Fee Waiver from the SDSU Office of Graduate Admissions.

If you are not accepted into the Joint Doctoral Program and decide to reapply the following year, you must notify the JDP office prior to September 1; after that date material is destroyed.  You will need to complete a new application to the SDSU Office of Admissions and Records and pay the $55 application fee.  You must also update any changes on your JDP application.  

Step 3

Students accepted into the Joint Doctoral Program will also be required to apply to UCSD. After formal notification from SDSU, students will receive material from UCSD. Payment of an application fee to UCSD is required. Do not send any application materials to UCSD at this time.
